Crepe Paper Tassel Garland

Today’s post is all about crepe paper tassels, and how to make garlands with them.

Its’s a nifty trick to add color to any of your set-ups, especially if you’re on a budget. Don’t believe me? Read on and find out how much it costs to make these garlands!

All you need is:

  1. Crepe paper, ZC Nilai 3
  2. Glue
  3. Cotton Twine
  4. Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Unfold the crepe paper sheet, and fold it in half in the opposite direction of how you unfold it.
  2. Cut the sheets according to your desired width. I had just cut them based on the original folds of the sheet. The width will determine how fluffy your tassels are (the wider, the fluffier it’ll be).
  3. At the fold end, measure 1½ inches from the fold and fold it down. To make the tassel effect, you need to cut from the other end (the one without the fold) and cut inwards towards the fold that’s 1½ inches away from the center fold. I had roughly estimated the width of each cut to be about ½ an inch apart.
  4. Once you’ve cut the whole width of that sheet, carefully unfold the the crepe paper.
  5. Bunch up the uncut portion of the crepe paper and twist. Fold it in half and glue the two ends of the twisted part, which will create a hole (you need this to string the twine through it to make the garland). And there you go, you’ve made your first tassel! Continue steps 1 to 5 till you’ve made enough tassels.

To make the garland:

Take the tassels and string it through with cotton twine. Cut the twine to your desired length.

You can get these crepe paper from ZC Nilai 3, they a have a great range of colors there. And the great news is, it’s RM 0.90 each! The metallic ones are a bit pricier (and a lot more stiff too FYI). The cotton twine you can get at any stationery shop at RM 3.20 each.

For the Bright Wedding Cake Table, I had used 7 sheets of crepe paper (RM 0.90 x 7 = RM 6.30) and only a small portion of the cotton twine. For less than RM 10.00, it made a huge difference to the whole look.

These crepe paper tassel garlands are not only cheap to make, but super simple to make too!
